But what happens to my pet after they are surrendered to the rescue?
The first thing our team does when a pet is surrendered is we take them straight to our quarantine room in a small transport container where we have already set up a species appropriate enclosure for the animal when needed. We then label the enclosure and record the surrender date in a planner. From there we begin to access the animals general health depending on species of animal some things we check for are snake/lizard mites, lice, stuck shed, missing fur, injuries, missing limbs, metabolic bone disease deformities, retained eye caps, prolapses, burns, upper respiratory infections, mucus in the mouth, bodily fluid discharge, tumors, etc. If any sign of illness or poor health is found by our team we treat the animal accordingly, and take them to our trusted exotic animal veterinarian at Animal Kingdom Veterinary Hospital when further treatment is required to fully rehabilitate the animal. All surrendered pet's stay with us for a minimum quarantine period of 6 weeks so that we can assure optimal health before placing the animal up for adoption to a new home. After an animal is placed up for adoption, potential adopters must apply to adopt our animals by filling out an online adoption application formatted to help our team place the animal in the best home possible. Once a adopter is approved to adopt one of our animals they are then required to pay a small adoption fee and sign our adoption contract outlining the terms of adoption such as cage size requirements, unsafe prohibited enrichment items, unsafe prohibited beddings, approved species appropriate diets, unsafe prohibited enclosures, unsafe prohibited heat sources etc. And from there your pet is off to live it's best, long, happy life with its new family. If you do have any other questions or concerns about out procedures please feel free to voice anything to our team and we will do anything we possibly can to show you that your pet's care, happiness, and best interests are always truly our first concern.
